Our digestion is something we can easily take for granted when it’s working well.  When our digestion is working efficiently we can eat without a care, and not even realize all the different processes involved in order to turn our food into nutrition for the body.  However, when something is off  – whether it’s indigestion, gas, bloating, pain, discomfort, nausea, just to name a few – then our digestion becomes a blinking beacon that something is wrong.  And this digestion problem usually has an effect on our quality of life because we either have to alter our diet, take medication, or live with constant uncomfortable symptoms such as gas, bloating and pain.

If you are suffering from some type of digestion ailment, then let us give you some hope by letting you know there are lots of things you can do to relieve the symptoms and address the root cause. Our Toronto naturopath sees people with a wide range of digestive problems at the clinic such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), GERD, acid reflux, crohn’s, colitis, and many other conditions.  He also sees a lot of people who are suffering with symptoms such as gas and bloating and haven’t yet received a diagnosis, or have been through a battery of tests and no cause has been found.

If any of the above sounds familiar to you, then let us share some details of the type of treatment plan we can offer.  First, it is important to explain that for long-term healing the treatment is going to take some time.  While our naturopathic doctor may be able to use some natural products to help ease symptoms while you are healing, please know that true deep healing for the root cause of the problem will take some time.  Our Toronto naturpath, Dr. Steyr has offered a good analogy for this:  if we get a cut on our skin, we can visually see that this takes time to heal.  We can put a band-aid on it to protect it, and maybe some cream to help if there’s pain.  But we can see on a daily basis how long it takes to heal.  When we have a digestion ailment the healing process is going to take roughly same amount of time, it’s just that we can’t see the healing process because it’s inside.  Now, we’re not saying that the digestive problem is caused by a wound like we see on our skin.  We are using this analogy because it’s a good visual example of how we can see our body’s healing process.

To further support our patients during this healing process we offer diet guides complete with recipes, and our Foundations Guide which educates people on the digestion process.  Although we use natural products our main focus is diet and lifestyle changes.  Remember, this is healing for the long-term so once you’ve completed your treatment plan, you’ll know how to maintain great digestion for the future.
